December Screen Quick Hits

A quick list of what's been on my screens this month for those needing to improve their algo, or need links to share with friends to demo why YouTube is now predominantly Sofa+TV based entertainment, and not just cat videos, AI slop and You've Been Framed fodder your parents might suspect it is.

December Screen Quick Hits
I averaged 2 different channels per day this year 🙃

Get the fuck up, get outside and do the scary thing

Legend of the platform, Casey Neistat's yearly NYC Marathon video took a different route this year, and it's gold - it got me wanting to lace up and head out for a stupidly long run myself, despite nursing sickness. Inspirational, feel good stuff - WHATS YOUR EXCUSE?

For those needing to watch someone achieve something incredible and feel inadequate in comparison

A green and pleasant land (that's now just houses)

This gem from the BFI Archive features the green and pleasant ands around our home - with written and narration from local icon, Laurie Lee; West of England (1951)

WEST OF ENGLAND feat. babbling brooks, shire horses, and a world we left behind...

DIYdidIdothis

Suiting the seasonal retrospective-content, the Bricks and Disorder boys are back with a bit of a house-renno hindsight-video. Great way in for any of you who are new to the channel and the fiendishly watchable, sometimes off the wall

Warning; contains power washing

A destruction derby and (unlikely) amphibious weekend adventures

We've been treated to two new PrestonGoes videos this month...

The latest is a a rare video which doesn't feature Preston making-a-thing, but naturally does feature a banger of a tune (he creates a different song for every video) - his human, humble and as relatable as a video of someone trying a destruction derby style can be is a great watch in doing the scary thing (to get clicks on YouTube). And it's a banger of a thumbnail too...

Look. at. that. thumbnail.

Whilst his first December video is a return to a weekend adventure style silly missions in a "can he do a thing in a thing" form is the fun at the centre of the channel. Not hitting the heights of the railroad Go-Kart, underwater jetpack, fake dumpster camping or underground go-kart but boy is he both consistent and prolific.

Because we all want an amphibious car

Camera trickery broken down from 1909 black and white movies to LOTR

The Corridor Crew are here to explain to us why in camera effects are the don. This is my take, deffo not theirs, but it remains the truth and you should watch and agree with me.

How it feels sitting at the kids table for Christmas dinner

Brewing up a story about Agave, Tequila and commodities markets

One of those perfect Morning Brew videos where you learn a bunch (for one, what plant Tequila gets made from!), see a job you deffo would want to try despite knowing you'd be terrible at it, and see why the channel has niched it's way to such popularity. Also, unrelated, I'm looking for someone who'll take the other side of the bet that Tequila will be more expensive in 7 years...

Agave shit about Tequila prices after watching this

Because we all need a death-based laugh from time to time

Finally, here's a shout out to those who want some grief-related-lols. This clip from Conon O'Brien's podcast (I assume) is a great insight into how humour can be an important remedy to dealing with grief (no triggers, just lols).

Dead family text chatter

And one from a few months ago I think I've watched 3 or 4 times now...

Michelle Khare took it, us, and arguably YouTube to a whole other level, recreating one of the few Mission Impossible stunt we're all bound to experience once in our lives, the I'm stuck on the outside of a military plane scenario. The build up is paced to build tension, and the behind the scenes video & Colin and Samir interview has great in the weeds details, and the meticulously detailed planning and safety. Just watch it and let the stunt speak for itself.

Just hit play

Finally, some tunes to leave you with...

This month's music hit is from the decks of Coulou, exploring snow day jazz & blues to provide a seasonal soundtrack to your present wrapping, or post family intensive afternoons...
